How to use this information
This is a template guide with examples on how to write an Operational Safety Case vol. 1 and vol. 2.
IT IS NOT A COPY AND PASTE GUIDE! – THE EXAMPLES ARE PROVIDED FOR YOUR INFORMATION AND GUIDANCE ONLY. COPIED MANUALS WILL BE RETURNED BY UDT AND THE CAA.
However – Please use the same titles and numbering this makes our task and the CAAs job much easier and will result in a quicker turn around for you.
The CAA require all works to be original and from the operator/operating company. Use it as guidance on the type of content you are required to submit to the CAA. You can use the theme of the text and alter it for your company but please DO NOT COPY AND PASTE the manual – make it your work specific to your operation.
Update 24/10/16 – we have been informed the CAA are returning ops manuals due to references to “Aerial work” or “PFAW” and the old article numbers (166 & 167). Please make sure these terms do not feature anywhere in your Ops Manual.
This template is based on guidance in CAP 722.
The text in blue is an explanation of what is required, while the text in BLACK is an example of what text is required.
Text in blue is guidance on how to write the manual and should not feature in your Ops Manual!
Text in blue has a number or letter by it – this matches the number next to the text in black which it relates to, for example:
1) This explanation text telling you to put your name in section 1
1) Joe Bloggs
“XXXX” indicates your company specific information
Finally, this template is 50 pages long – do not let this overwhelm you as 50% of this is guidance and 50% is an actual example from an actual approved operations manual. For a standard operation you should be able to complete your manual (parts 1 and 2) in around 30 pages and this is by no means all solid text.
