DJI launch Mavic 2 Enterprise Dual with advanced thermal imaging capability
The latest platform in the Mavic 2 Series was launched – somewhat unexpectedly – by DJI yesterday. Featuring a brand-new three-axis gimbal stabilised camera with dual visual and thermal sensors, the Mavic 2 Enterprise Dual is set to further open the doors into unmanned aerial inspection across multiple industries.
”Drones are fast becoming a common sighting in public safety and inspection operations, where users get immediate value from a reliable aerial tool that can easily be deployed anywhere at any time,” said Jan Gasparic, DJI Director of Strategic Partnerships. “When DJI and FLIR first introduced the XT camera in 2015, we opened up a range of new commercial drone applications. With the Mavic 2 Enterprise Dual, we are enabling safer operations in more diverse environments so operators can focus on accomplishing their missions.”
Key Features of the Mavic 2 Enterprise Dual
Designed as a reliable tool for commercial pilots to undertake aerial inspection across a variety of challenging and even hostile environments, the compact and portable aircraft features the signature Mavic shell and is compatible with all of the Mavic 2 Enterprise components and accessories, including the M2E Spotlight, Beacon and Speaker devices. But by far the most impressive feature of the M2E Dual is its side-by-side 4K sensor for capturing visible light and a FLIR Lepton® thermal microcamera for capturing thermal data. This fully integrated dual imaging system allows the user to accurately measure and store temperature and visual data to meet the demands of industrial and time-sensitive operations. The Mavic 2 Enterprise Dual also offers:
FLIR MSX® – multispectral dynamic imaging that combines real-time thermal and visual images to help you quickly identify and interpret critical data.
Spot Meter – measure temperature at specific points from a safe distance.
Area Measurement – measure the average, minimum and maximum temperature of a chosen area.
Isotherm – quickly identify temperature ranges using a custom, pre-set colour palette.

Is the Mavic 2 Enterprise Dual a worthwhile investment?
The fact is you can now acquire thermal aerial data from a compact, portable drone for under £3,000 – something previously unheard of, with DJI’s heavy-lift industrial platforms (such as the Matrice 200 Series equipped with a thermal-capable payload like the Zenmuse XT/XT2) starting from approx. £10,000.
As Jim Cannon, President and CEO at FLIR explains, “The Mavic 2 Enterprise Dual equipped with the FLIR Lepton, our smallest thermal microcamera, offers a significant opportunity to introduce thermal imaging capabilities to more drone owners. This is our third product with DJI and its world-leading platforms, and this latest Thermal by FLIR collaboration is a significant step forward in making thermal an essential feature in the industry.’
In our opinion, DJI’s Mavic 2 Enterprise Dual is well worth the initial investment of £2,669.00 if you plan to incorporate an aerial platform into your everyday operations across a range of platforms including building and structural inspections, search and rescue, firefighting, police missions, emergency response and more.
